OPPO Find X8 Ultra: A Premier Android Camera Experience
OPPO Find X8 Ultra is an exceptional Android flagship that inspires users to capture every moment around them. This smartphone is an advancement over the impressive Find X8 Pro, featuring upgraded camera technology while subtly enhancing the overall design. However, global availability poses a challenge for users outside of China, necessitating imports and certain compromises.
Design and Display of OPPO Find X8 Ultra
The past year’s two-tone vegan leather back has been replaced with a sleek matte finish, offering a more contemporary and refined look. The rounded edges contribute to the 6.8-inch phone being surprisingly comfortable to hold despite its size. The front showcases a flat LTPO AMOLED display boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness reaching 2,500 nits. Viewing HDR content on this device is a delightful experience with vibrant colours and deep blacks, avoiding overly enhanced contrast.
Performance and Battery Life
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite provides the expected flagship-level speed and reliability. Whether engaged in gaming, editing high-resolution photos, or managing multiple applications, the performance remains smooth and efficient. A noteworthy feature is the 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, which excels not only in size but also in endurance. Even during intense usage, users often find it challenging to deplete the battery below 30 percent by the end of the day. On less demanding days, it comfortably extends into a second day without the need for charging.
Camera Quality of OPPO Find X8 Ultra
The camera system stands out as one of the best available in 2025. It includes a 50MP one-inch main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and two 50MP telephoto lenses providing 3x and 6x optical zoom. The primary camera captures impressively detailed images with outstanding dynamic range, especially in low-light conditions. Colours appear natural, steering clear of the excessive saturation often seen on many other Android flagships.
Particularly impressive is the 6x telephoto lens, which produces sharp details with minimal noise, even in challenging lighting conditions. Macro performance is also commendable, showcasing a balanced quality without excessive sharpening. The ultrawide lens is slightly less impressive but still performs well, although users may notice a hint of oversaturation in bright daylight.
OPPO has notably improved video capabilities. The stabilisation mimics gimbal-like performance, lens switching is intuitive, and 4K video recording at 60fps is currently supported, with an update on the way for 4K120. Under optimal conditions, this Android device emerges as a genuine contender to the iPhone for video production.
Quirks and Concerns
Despite its numerous strengths, the OPPO Find X8 Ultra is not without its imperfections. The replacement of the alert slider with a “shortcut button” appears as a step backward, offering limited customisation and awkward functionality within the camera interface. Additionally, the major drawback is the lack of availability beyond China. Importing the device is feasible but may involve potential issues with carrier compatibility (it worked seamlessly with Jio in India) and an inflated overall price tag.
The Verdict on OPPO Find X8 Ultra
With its remarkable capabilities in smartphone photography, along with impressive battery performance and a responsive display, the OPPO Find X8 Ultra stands out in the market. If it were available worldwide, it would arguably be a strong contender for the title of the best flagship of the year. Until OPPO reconsiders its global distribution, this remains the ultimate camera phone that many may not have the opportunity to own.
