Agentic AI Experiences in Vehicles: Qualcomm and Google Cloud Partnership

Agentic AI Experiences in Vehicles

Agentic AI experiences in vehicles are set to enhance automotive technology as Qualcomm Technologies teams up with Google Cloud. This collaboration unites Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, driven by Gemini models, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions. The aim is to empower automakers to create sophisticated, multimodal AI agents for their in-car systems.

Enhancing In-Car Experiences

This partnership seeks to assist car manufacturers in evolving their in-car experiences, moving from simple voice commands to more engaging, conversational, and context-aware interactions. By merging Google’s advanced AI models with Qualcomm’s robust hardware and software platforms, automakers will likely experience reduced development timelines along with access to ready-made tools for various applications such as navigation, entertainment, and vehicle controls.

Hybrid AI Approach

The collaboration employs a hybrid AI approach, leveraging on-device processing for immediate responses while utilizing cloud-based AI for complex tasks. This strategy provides automobile manufacturers with enhanced flexibility, enabling technology to progress in sync with improvements in Google’s Gemini models.

According to Shiv Venkataraman, VP of Applied AI at Google Cloud, their alliance with Qualcomm Technologies enables car manufacturers to take full control of their innovation journey. He stated that the collaboration creates a secure, brand-controlled platform empowering automakers to develop advanced AI companions with multi-modal, multi-lingual, and multi-intent functionalities.

Nakul Duggal, Group GM for Automotive and Industrial & Embedded IoT at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., highlighted that this collaboration represents a significant leap in offering automakers new opportunities, enabling them to provide digitally advanced and personalised experiences to their clients.

Long-standing Collaboration

Qualcomm and Google’s partnership in the automotive sector dates back to 2016, initially focusing on embedded Android experiences through Snapdragon technology. Over time, their collaboration has evolved to encompass AI-driven cockpit systems, voice command functionalities, and integration of Android Automotive OS.

The recent announcement reflects a broader movement towards software-defined and AI-powered vehicles, which are increasingly recognised as vital to the future of transportation.
