Samsung has officially announced the beta programme for its latest operating system, One UI 8.5. This updated version, built on Android, aims to simplify the use of Galaxy phones and tablets, enhance device connectivity, and significantly improve security measures.
Initially, the beta will be accessible to owners of the Galaxy S25 series in select regions. Users interested in participating can enroll through the Samsung Members app. One UI 8.5 brings notable enhancements that assist users in creating and sharing content more effortlessly. Below are some of the key features:
Highlights
Enhanced AI Photo Editing
The update refines the Photo Assist feature, which enables users to continuously edit their images using AI tools without interruption. Multiple modifications can be made without the necessity of saving each iteration. When satisfied with the outcome, users can review edit history to see all versions created and select their favourite.
Intelligent Photo Sharing
The well-regarded Quick Share function is receiving improvements. It can now recognise individuals in photographs and proactively recommend sending those images to the correct contacts. This streamlines the process, eliminating the need to search manually for recipients.
Improved Device Connectivity
This new software update aims to enhance the interconnectedness of the entire Galaxy device ecosystem, from smartphones to personal computers.
A novel feature named Storage Share offers a more seamless file management experience. Users can now view and access files stored on other Galaxy devices—including tablets and desktop computers—directly within the My Files app of their phone. This means quick access to documents, regardless of which Samsung device they are stored on.
Audio Broadcast Feature
The Audio Broadcast feature has been modernised, providing an inventive way to share audio. Users can employ their Galaxy phone’s microphone to transmit their voice to nearby speakers or earbuds compatible with Auracast (LE Audio). Samsung highlights that this feature is particularly useful in group environments, such as during guided tours or while hosting small events.
Improved Security Features
Protection for devices has been enhanced with new options that offer users greater control over their security settings.
Theft Protection and Authentication Lock
New security measures have been introduced to safeguard phones and data in the event of loss or theft. The Failed Authentication Lock feature will automatically secure the device’s screen after multiple unsuccessful attempts to verify identity via fingerprint, PIN, or password. This helps to keep secure apps and settings away from unauthorised access, even if the device was unlocked at the time it was taken. Additionally, the standard Identity Check feature has been updated to cover more settings than before.
Availability
The One UI 8.5 beta programme is currently available to Galaxy S25 series users in select markets, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the U.S. starting from 8th December.
