One UI 8 – Samsung Electronics’ Next-Generation Update
One UI 8 has now officially launched by Samsung Electronics, marking the arrival of its advanced software update for Galaxy devices. This update features multimodal AI capabilities, tailored suggestions, and a refreshed visual design suited for smartphones and foldables alike. The rollout will commence with the Galaxy S25 series, followed by the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy S24 FE, with plans for additional compatible devices to receive the update later this year.
Multimodal AI Features in One UI 8
One UI 8 uses multimodal AI to integrate visual, auditory, and contextual inputs, enhancing everyday usage. Among its key features are:
- Gemini Live for instant communication and understanding of context.
- Circle to Search with Google for immediate game tips and live translations across applications.
- Now Bar and Now Brief that provide real-time updates, app activities, media tracking, and personalised reminders.
Enhanced Security Measures
In addition to new features, Samsung has improved security with:
- Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP): which establishes app-specific encrypted storage on the device.
- Knox Matrix: that automatically signs devices out of accounts upon detection of serious risks.
- Upgraded Secure Wi-Fi featuring post-quantum cryptography (PQC): designed to safeguard against next-generation cyber threats.
Optimised Interface for Various Devices
The update has optimised the interface for different form factors, particularly for larger-screen Galaxy tablets and foldable devices. Noteworthy features include:
- AI Results View: retains AI-generated results in Split View or Floating View without interrupting the main content.
- Multi Window enhancements: enabling users to drag-and-drop AI-generated text and images seamlessly into their workflows.
- Drawing Assist and Writing Assist: designed for easier creative tasks.
- Portrait Studio and Call Captions: allowing the generation of pet portraits and providing real-time call transcription.
Customisation Options
Users will find new ways to personalise their experience, including FlexWindow wallpapers, emojis, and clock designs. The updated interface features Liquid Glass effects for watch faces and widgets.
The rollout initiates this week for the Galaxy S25 series and will progressively expand to additional models worldwide in the upcoming months. Samsung asserts that One UI 8 is a significant stride towards the democratisation of AI, offering millions of users advanced tools while safeguarding their privacy.
