Setting WhatsApp as Your Go-To App for Calls and Messages on iPhone

Set WhatsApp as Your Default Calling and Messaging App

WhatsApp has now become the default calling and messaging app option for iPhone users. With the introduction of iOS 18.2, Apple has implemented significant updates to enhance user experience.

Initially, Apple announced that only users in the EU would be able to set their default apps for phone and messaging functions. However, this change has now been made available to all iPhone users worldwide following an update to iOS 18.2.

Steps to Set WhatsApp as Your Default Calling/Messaging App

  1. Update your iPhone to iOS 18.2 or a later version. The current version available is iOS 18.3.2.
  2. Ensure WhatsApp is updated to the latest version through the App Store.
  3. Navigate to Settings → Apps → Default Apps. Here, you will have the option to select WhatsApp as your default app for Calling and Messaging.

What Happens When WhatsApp Becomes the Default App?

After WhatsApp is set as the default app, any tap on a phone number found in Contacts or other applications will automatically direct users to WhatsApp instead of the traditional Apple Phone or Messages app.

This simplifies the process by minimising unnecessary steps, making it convenient for individuals who prefer to use a single app for all their communication needs.
