Siri Gets Smarter: iOS 27 Introduces Third-Party AI Integration for Enhanced User Experience

WWDC 2026: Apple Set to Unveil AI Features in iOS 27

Apple has officially revealed the schedule for its yearly developers’ conference, WWDC 2026, during which the technology leader is anticipated to showcase the upcoming iOS 27. This update is expected to be publicly available in June, with discussions regarding the enhancements already emerging. This year, Apple aims to place a significant emphasis on advancements in Artificial Intelligence, particularly focusing on enhancing the capabilities of Siri’s AI.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the iOS 27 update is likely to introduce AI extensions, enabling users to incorporate and operate external AI chatbots directly within Siri. This development will decrease Apple’s reliance on OpenAI’s ChatGPT, permitting users to choose and install various AI chatbots from other developers.

Siri AI Upgrade with iOS 27

Apple’s strategy includes opening Siri and Apple Intelligence to allow other companies to integrate their AI tools into the system. With the new Extensions feature set to debut with the iOS 27 update, users will have the ability to manage which AI services operate within Siri via their device settings on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Moreover, it is suggested that Apple will introduce a dedicated section in the App Store for these AI tools, providing users access to a variety of AI services for Siri. As a result, users can send requests to third-party AI systems, such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude, and receive responses accordingly.

The report highlighted that the integration of third-party AI could create a new revenue opportunity if users subscribe to these services through the App Store. It would also enable Apple to avoid the necessity for individual integration agreements, like the partnership with ChatGPT. Should Apple implement this new AI integration strategy, it could onboard various external AI services more swiftly, thereby broadening the application of AI across its platforms.

Additionally, it was noted that this expected extension feature would be distinct from Apple and Google’s AI collaboration. The partnership aims to enhance Siri’s functionalities fundamentally, leveraging the capabilities of Gemini AI models. Therefore, Apple seems to have grander ambitions for Siri this year, potentially evolving beyond merely being a voice assistant on Apple devices.
