Slack’s Transformation into an Agentic Operating System at Dreamforce 2025
At Dreamforce 2025, Slack presented its boldest enhancement to date, evolving into an agentic operating system that fosters seamless collaboration between humans and AI. This innovative platform brings together individuals, data, applications, and AI agents within Slack, converting it into a conversational workspace tailored for the modern organisation.
Denise Dresser, CEO of Slack, mentioned that every organisation is curious about where their agents will reside, how they will gain context, and how to maximise their utility. She stated that Slack serves this purpose effectively. By positioning Slack as the conversational interface for Salesforce, the company is providing every team member with a reliable, unified platform for AI and agents, reshaping the way work is accomplished.
Slack’s Evolution Beyond Messaging
This announcement signifies Slack’s growth from a simple messaging application to a vital centre for productivity, driven by AI capabilities. The company introduced numerous advancements, such as enhanced native AI functionalities, a personalised Slackbot assistant, and the Channel Expert agent that delivers immediate, in-channel knowledge. These innovations empower employees to source answers, automate tasks, and streamline workflows more efficiently.
Conversational Interface for Salesforce
Slack is also evolving into the conversational interface for Salesforce. With the new Agentforce integrations, teams in sales, IT, HR, and analytics can now retrieve Salesforce data directly within Slack. They can manage pipelines, address IT queries, and evaluate dashboards using natural language, eliminating the need to navigate through various tabs or systems.
Engine’s Perspective on Slack
Engine, a valued Salesforce client, perceives Slack as a command centre for their operations. Mollie Bodensteiner, Engine’s SVP of Operations, expressed that they are building for scale rather than just speed. She noted that Slack and Salesforce provide the necessary structure to automate tasks that hinder productivity while offering the flexibility required for continuous innovation as they expand.
Upgraded Slackbot as a Personal AI Companion
The redesigned Slackbot now serves as a personal AI companion that aids with a range of tasks, from summarising meetings to crafting project outlines. It collaborates with platforms like Google Drive, OneDrive, and Salesforce, delivering context-specific insights and actions. Andy White, SVP of Salesforce on Salesforce Technology, remarked that the Slackbot exemplifies what the future of productivity entails.
New Developer Capabilities for Enterprise AI
To consolidate enterprise AI tools, Slack has launched new developer features such as the Real-Time Search API and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. These capabilities enable partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, and Notion to develop intelligent agents that function seamlessly within Slack.
For example, OpenAI’s ChatGPT will integrate through Slack’s new API to unearth insights and assist teams in making swift decisions, while Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini-powered Agentspace will improve collaboration through contextual intelligence.
Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel, commended Slack’s platform adaptability, stating that they have realised Slack is an ideal platform for AI agents, with these agents feeling more like team members than mere tools.
