Starlink Launches Commercial Satellite Internet Service in India
Starlink, the company owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is preparing to introduce its commercial satellite internet service in India. As the launch approaches, details regarding the subscription pricing for this service have been disclosed, revealing that it may not be economical for all users. Currently, Starlink has shared the monthly rates for residential customers but has not yet announced offerings for businesses.
Starlink Subscription Pricing in India
According to the information available on the Starlink India webpage, the monthly subscription for residential users is set at Rs 8600. In addition to the monthly fees, customers will have to make a one-time payment for a hardware kit, priced at Rs 34,000. This kit comprises a Starlink satellite dish, a kickstand, generation 3 routers, a 15 metre Starlink cable, a 1.5 metre AC cable, and a power supply.
The Starlink website emphasizes that the plan will provide users with unlimited data, along with a complimentary 30-day trial period. It also claims to deliver seamless internet connectivity in all weather, boasting over 99.9% uptime. Furthermore, Starlink is anticipated to announce pricing for its business services in the upcoming weeks, as the official launch of services is projected for 2026.
Operational Presence in India
Starlink is establishing its operational centre in Bengaluru, along with a commercial hub in Mumbai. In October, the company posted job openings on LinkedIn, which included positions for a Payments Manager, an Accounting Manager, a Senior Treasury Analyst, and a Tax Manager. Presently, Starlink’s availability map indicates that regulatory approvals are still required; however, it has secured the essential licenses from the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe).
