HrdWyr Indus 1011: A Leap for India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

India’s semiconductor ecosystem has advanced with the introduction of the HrdWyr Indus 1011, a chip designed entirely within the country. This high-volume branded chip, developed by semiconductor startup HrdWyr, was created in partnership with the audio wearables brand boAt. Tata Electronics has played a pivotal role in the assembly, packaging, and testing of the chip.

This initiative represents boAt’s transition from depending on foreign chipset providers to supporting a homegrown startup in the semiconductor sector. The collaboration aims to enhance India’s standing in the global semiconductor landscape while aligning with the government’s initiatives, such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Advancements of the Indus 1011 Chip

The Indus 1011 chip is set to introduce significant improvements in intelligent battery management. It will be incorporated into boAt’s upcoming premium true wireless stereo (TWS) charging cases, which are anticipated to launch early next year. BoAt contributed valuable consumer insights and product specifications, while HrdWyr focused on developing new intellectual property that emphasises low power usage, high performance, and reliability.

Tata Electronics: Ensuring Domestic Production

With Tata Electronics’ involvement, the entire cycle of design, intellectual property development, and packaging has been completed within India, ensuring a truly local production process.

Sameer Mehta, the Co-founder and CEO of boAt, expressed that this collaboration showcases how genuine product differentiation is driven by innovation at the chip level, affirming that such advancements can indeed be realised in India.

Ramamurthy Sivakumar, Co-founder and CEO of HrdWyr, highlighted the importance of semiconductor innovation and supply chain independence for sizeable economies like India. He noted that this achievement exemplifies India’s ability to innovate in the most intricate areas of technology, particularly in semiconductor product design and IP creation.

The development of the HrdWyr Indus 1011 is seen as a template for future partnerships between Indian consumer brands and tech startups. Analysts on the industry front are optimistic about its potential influence on India’s broader semiconductor aspirations.
