Significant Transactions by New-Age Companies in India

Significant transactions occurred among new-age companies in India in August, highlighted by 17 block and bulk deals valued at Rs 26,337 crore or $2.77 billion across 12 firms. These transactions were primarily initiated by early-stage investors and company promoters selling their stakes, with mutual funds, insurers, and international institutional investors stepping in as main purchasers.

Lenskart’s Dominance in Secondary Deals

Lenskart led the way with the largest share, amounting to Rs 7,445 crore from three separate deals. In this instance, SoftBank divested shares worth Rs 2,888 crore, while Alpha Wave released shares valued at Rs 1,857 crore. In a different block deal worth Rs 2,700 crore, BNP Paribas Financial Markets and Societe Generale sold shares, with BlackRock acquiring the bulk of this stake. Prominent institutional investors like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, ICICI Prudential, and SBI Mutual Fund were active participants in these transactions. Overall, institutional investors have divested approximately Rs 14,200 crore, or $1.5 billion, in Lenskart stock in recent months.

Paytm’s Transactions and Stake Sales

Paytm also featured prominently, with two transactions amounting to nearly Rs 4,986 crore. SAIF Partners and Elevation Capital sold a combined 2.33% stake in One97 Communications for Rs 2,037 crore. Following this, Resilient Asset Management, backed by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, divested a 3% stake for Rs 2,949 crore. SBI Mutual Fund emerged as one of the largest purchasers in this latter sale.

Investor Movements in Groww

Groww experienced two significant investor exits, totaling Rs 3,649 crore. Y Combinator sold shares worth Rs 1,435 crore, reducing its stake by 1.2%, while Ribbit Capital disposed of shares worth Rs 2,217 crore. This activity coincided with Groww’s lead in the stockbroking sector, boasting 1.31 crore active users and a market share of 28.88% as of July 2026.

Eternal’s Quick Commerce Activity

The foodtech and quick commerce platform Eternal recorded a substantial transaction worth Rs 3,265 crore, where BNP Paribas Financial Markets and Integrated Core Strategies (Asia) offloaded nearly 10 crore shares. BNP Paribas contributed shares valued at Rs 1,671 crore, while Integrated Core Strategies sold Rs 1,594 crore worth of shares.

Meesho and Additional Exits

Meesho saw two investor exits valued at Rs 2,919 crore. Peak XV Partners and Elevation Capital jointly sold a 2.27% stake for Rs 1,949 crore, followed by a sale from Y Combinator worth Rs 970 crore. Various large institutional investors, including Societe Generale, Axis Mutual Fund, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, took part in the initial transaction.

Other Noteworthy Transactions

Apart from these four companies, Hero MotoCorp acquired a Rs 1,758 crore stake in Ather Energy from GIC, increasing its ownership in the electric two-wheeler manufacturer to 32.8%. Differing from most transactions that month, this deal represented strategic investment rather than an investor exit.

PhysicsWallah saw Lightspeed Venture Partners divest its 1.61% stake via a Rs 550 crore transaction, with ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund being a key buyer. Urban Company also experienced sales from Accel and VY Capital, amounting to Rs 428 crore, directed to SBI Mutual Fund.

Amagi recorded a Rs 600 crore transaction involving Accel, Trudy Holdings, and AVP Fund. Additionally, Alpha Wave sold its entire stake in Aye Finance for Rs 322 crore, while WeWork Global divested a 2.52% stake in WeWork India for Rs 244 crore. The promoter of Capillary Technologies, Capillary Technologies Pte Ltd, also sold a 4.14% stake for Rs 171 crore.

The market activity in August showcases increasing liquidity within India’s startup landscape. Early investors are leveraging public markets to monetise their holdings, with institutional investors stepping in to meet the demand for these large-scale exits. Together, Paytm, Lenskart, Groww, Eternal, and Meesho accounted for nearly Rs 18,999 crore, constituting about 72% of the month’s total deal value. This surge in deals is indicative of profit-taking and strategic partial exits by both early and institutional investors as these companies enhance their market presence post-listing.
