Face Check: Tinder’s New Safety Feature in India

Tinder has introduced Face Check in India, a cutting-edge safety tool designed to identify fake profiles and tackle bots on its popular dating platform. This initiative represents another substantial effort by Tinder to enhance the safety and reliability of online dating.

The Importance of Face Check

Yoel Roth, Senior Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group, mentioned that Face Check is debuting in India at a crucial time when genuine online interactions are essential. Safety features like Face Check provide valuable resources in combating fake profiles, bots, and fraud, allowing users to concentrate on fostering meaningful connections.

How Face Check Functions

The feature mandates that new users record a brief video selfie to verify their identity. Tinder’s technology then cross-references this selfie with the images in the user’s profile to confirm they are the same person. Upon successful verification, users earn a Photo Verified badge, which instills greater confidence in others when choosing to match or engage in conversation.

Enhancing Safety in Digital Dating

Face Check is part of Tinder’s larger strategy to cultivate a safer online dating environment, particularly in India, which is one of its rapidly expanding markets. This feature is currently being rolled out to new users nationwide.

User Safety Preferences in India

According to Tinder’s Modern Dating Report, users in India are increasingly taking the initiative regarding safety and authenticity. One-third of daters in India find profile verification to be among the most appealing aspects of dating applications. Approximately half of those surveyed prefer to meet potential matches in public spaces, while 42 percent inform friends or family about their plans prior to meeting in person. Moreover, 37 percent express a preference for having a video call before any offline meetings.

Tinder’s Commitment to Safety Features

Over the past few years, Tinder has implemented over 20 safety features in India, including “Are You Sure?”, “Does This Bother You?”, enhanced reporting functionalities, warnings, and ID verification, raising the bar for safety in the online dating arena.

With Face Check, Tinder aims to promote transparency in dating, enabling users to focus on authentic relationships without the fear of scams or impersonation.
