Truecaller Unveils Free AI-Enhanced Voicemail for Android in 12 Indian Languages

Truecaller Voicemail Service: Modern AI-Powered Communication

The Truecaller voicemail service, designed for modern communication, has launched an innovative AI-driven voicemail feature for Android users in India. This service, unveiled on Thursday, seeks to enhance the traditional voicemail experience by providing instant transcription and integrated spam protection without any cost to users.

Key Features and Privacy

Differentiating itself from conventional carrier-based voicemail systems, Truecaller’s service enables users to record, store, and listen to messages directly within the application. A notable aspect of this new offering is that all voice recordings are kept locally on the user’s device, ensuring complete privacy and giving users full control over their data.

The service features AI-enabled transcription that quickly converts voice messages into text. This is particularly useful for users needing to read messages discreetly when listening to audio is impractical, such as during business meetings or in bustling public environments. To enhance local relevance, the transcription is available in 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Setup and Requirements

To utilise this feature, users must have the latest version of the Truecaller app installed. Furthermore, it is essential to have “call forwarding” activated on the mobile number, which allows any unanswered calls to be redirected to the Truecaller voicemail system.

Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller, pointed out that this initiative is aimed at eliminating the “friction and limitations of legacy systems.” While the core voicemail service is now freely accessible to all users in India, Premium subscribers will continue to enjoy the expanded functionality of the “Truecaller Assistant,” which engages with callers and provides custom greetings.

The company plans to broaden the reach of the voicemail feature to additional global markets following this initial launch in India.
