Gemini Personal Intelligence Enhancements in India
Gemini Personal Intelligence is being introduced in India, linking users’ Google accounts, like Gmail and Google Photos, to offer a more tailored AI experience. Initially launched in early 2026, Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature is aimed at making AI assistants more context-aware, practical, and integrated with daily applications.
Understanding Gemini Personal Intelligence
The rollout of Personal Intelligence will be as an opt-in feature and will be turned off by default. Users need to activate this feature in Gemini to connect their Google applications for a customised experience. Regarding privacy, Google has stated that data remains secure within its ecosystem; there is no need to transmit sensitive information elsewhere for personalisation. This aspect is a significant advantage.
Moreover, Google clarified that Gemini will not utilise users’ Gmail or Photos library data for training, but will improve functionality through data linked to specific prompts within the Gemini app.
Control Over Connected Applications
Users will maintain complete control over which applications they wish to connect to the AI. Choices include Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search, ensuring that Gemini becomes more valuable. Personal Intelligence boasts two primary capabilities: integrating reasoning from complex sources and extracting specific details, such as from an email or a photo, to address queries effectively.
This feature is capable of simultaneously executing both tasks, thereby linking information from text, images, and videos to deliver highly personalised, context-aware responses. For example, Gemini can fetch booking information from Gmail, access screenshots stored in Photos, and even recommend a restaurant based on a related YouTube video.
Availability of Gemini Personal Intelligence
Initially, the Gemini Personal Intelligence feature will be available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra users in India. Plans are in place to extend this feature to free-tier users in the upcoming weeks. Furthermore, it will be accessible across Web, Android, and iOS platforms, compatible with all models in the Gemini model picker.
