Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Unveiling at Snapdragon Summit

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a highly anticipated topic as Qualcomm prepares for its annual Snapdragon Summit on 23 September. The tech community is eagerly awaiting the introduction of the next-generation flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, recent leaks suggest that another premium processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, may also be announced.

Details on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Development

Renowned Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has shared insights that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, identified by the model number SM8845, is currently under development. This new chipset is projected to become a flagship-grade enhancement within the Snapdragon 8 series. In contrast to its predecessor Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (SM8735), this upcoming chipset will integrate Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores and will be manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm N3P process, identical to the technology poised to drive the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850).

Features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is also rumoured to support ARM’s Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME), a technology aimed at enhancing AI and machine learning performance. According to Qualcomm’s strategic positioning, this chipset is set to rank above the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 while being below the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which will stand as the company’s premium mobile offering.

Performance Expectations

Reports indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could provide up to a 20% enhancement in both single-core and multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is speculated to combine Oryon CPU cores with an Adreno 830 GPU, potentially making it one of Qualcomm’s most adaptable options for flagship smartphones launching in late 2025 and early 2026.

First Devices Featuring Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Industry speculation points towards the Redmi K90 being one of the inaugural devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, with brands like Honor and Realme anticipated to incorporate it in their forthcoming premium model launches.

As of now, Qualcomm has not officially acknowledged the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Nonetheless, anticipation is building for the upcoming summit, where there may be a surprise announcement from the chip manufacturer.
