Why Your Android Battery is Draining Quickly: The Instagram Connection and Fixes You Need

Instagram Battery Drain Issue on Android

If Instagram is affecting the battery life of an Android phone, users are not alone. Numerous reports have emerged, particularly from Google Pixel device owners, concerning excessive battery drain. Google has confirmed the root of the problem.

In a recent support update, Google identified the Instagram app as the cause of increased battery consumption, even while the app runs in the background. This problem became more prevalent following the May software update for Pixel devices.

As a widely used platform with over a billion users worldwide, Instagram is one of the most popular apps among Android users. However, many frustrated individuals have taken to Reddit to express their concerns regarding the app’s significant impact on battery life. Some users even attempted to revert to earlier versions of Instagram, only to encounter additional issues, such as overheating. Others switched to Instagram Lite and reported a noticeable improvement in battery performance, suggesting that the primary app may be responsible.

Resolving the Instagram Battery Drain Issue on Android

The simplest method to address the battery drain problem is by updating the Instagram app on the Android device. While Meta has not released an official statement, Google has confirmed that a fix is being implemented. According to an announcement, “Starting today, Instagram is rolling out an updated app that should fix a battery drain issue on Android devices.” Users are encouraged to update to version 382.0.0.49.84 of the Instagram app through the Google Play Store to rectify the situation.

If the update does not appear right away, it may have already been installed. Users can check their app version by long-pressing the Instagram icon, selecting “App info,” and scrolling to the bottom to view the version number.

While Google has recognised the issue for Pixel phones, it is still uncertain whether devices from other manufacturers have experienced similar problems. For now, updating the app stands as the most effective solution to restore normal battery functionality.
