Bengaluru-based founder Sumit Mittal has gained significant attention on social media by sharing his genuine story of failure, financial struggles, and ultimate success, resonating with both students and young professionals.

Mittal established Trendytech, an edtech platform located in Bengaluru, focusing on training in Data Engineering and GenAI, through which he currently mentors thousands of students throughout India.

Mittal’s Journey

In an honest social media post, Mittal revealed his challenges: “Yes, I faced IIT JEE failures twice.” He also mentioned, “Yes, I did not succeed in my chemistry pre-exam,” reflecting on the academic hurdles he faced early in his life. He shared that his family encountered a financial crisis during that time, which led him to work at a call centre. Furthermore, he completed his BCA through a distant learning institution, initially teaching just four students in a small room.

Despite these obstacles, he highlighted a crucial moment in his journey, stating, “But I achieved AIR 4 in NIMCET,” referring to the national-level MCA entrance exam. He proudly noted, “But I completed my MCA from NIT Trichy,” which stands for the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli. Following this, he gained experience working with top-tier product-based companies and now guides thousands of students.

Reflections on Setbacks

Mittal expressed, “Life encompasses both highs and lows. I have experienced both.” He encouraged those who are currently facing setbacks, stating, “If you are faced with continuous rejection, do not lose hope. Success is approaching with every stride.”

The post quickly attracted considerable attention online, eliciting numerous responses from social media users.

One commentator remarked, “Transitioning from failing chemistry pre-exams and working in a call centre to achieving AIR 4 in NIMCET and graduating from NIT Trichy is not merely a career change; it’s a complete transformation of what can be accomplished through determination.”

Another user stated, “Shifting from tutoring four students in a cramped room to developing the next generation of Data & GenAI engineers is the epitome of a builder’s evolution! Exponential respect for your perseverance, Sumit. Such an encouraging reminder to continuously enhance efforts.”

A third commenter reflected, “Obstacles never ceased. Intentions remained unwavering. Goals seem minimal until attained.”

What is NIMCET?

NIMCET, which stands for National Institute of Technology MCA Common Entrance Test, is a national-level examination conducted for admission to the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme at participating National Institutes of Technology (NITs). It is regarded as highly competitive, assessing candidates in mathematics, logical reasoning, and computer awareness.
