YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia Faces Parliamentary Scrutiny Amid Controversy
The Parliamentary Information Technology panel is considering summoning YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely recognized as BeerBiceps, over his controversial comments made during the show ‘India’s Got Latent’. This consideration comes in response to complaints submitted by several MPs and FIRs lodged against both Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina concerning the contentious episode.
The video containing the contentious remarks has since been removed from YouTube following a government notice citing its inflammatory nature.
Panel Response to Contentious Remarks
Panel members, including BJD MP Sasmit Patra and Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, are diligently addressing the situation. Chaturvedi has publicly condemned the use of offensive language in the episode, noting Allahbadia’s considerable influence, as he has hosted numerous politicians and has even been honoured with an award from the Prime Minister.
Chaturvedi emphasized that any form of abusive language disguised as comedic content is unacceptable, stating that having a platform does not grant individuals the liberty to say anything harmful. The panel is committed to addressing this matter urgently, underscoring the need for decorum and responsibility on public platforms.
Allahbadia’s Controversial Statement
Allahbadia’s remarks, which included a provocative question to a contestant—”Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”—have led to widespread backlash. In light of the public outrage, Allahbadia has issued an apology on social media, acknowledging his “lapse in judgment” and admitting that comedy may not be his strength.
He stated, “My comment was not only inappropriate, but it also lacked humour. I simply wish to extend my apologies.”
Ongoing Investigations and Public Reactions
In response to the situation, the Mumbai Police have summoned Allahbadia for questioning, with a team of five officers dispatched to his residence in Versova. Additionally, the Assam Police have initiated an FIR against the judges and host of the show, accusing them of endorsing obscenity.
Allahbadia commands a substantial following of 4.5 million on Instagram and over 10 million subscribers on YouTube, which has drawn significant attention to the episode. Politicians like MP Patra are calling for stricter regulations, reflecting increasing concerns about the influence of digital content on young and impressionable viewers.
Patra expressed his dismay, stating, “It is extremely unfortunate… I seek stronger regulations and measures for such derogatory remarks,” emphasizing the crucial role of accountability in digital media.
