Croft Beverages Secures Funding for Sustainable Tea Initiatives
Croft Beverages, a farmer-centric startup in the sustainable tea industry, has successfully raised $125K in a pre-seed funding round through a mix of equity and debt. This investment round featured influential angel investors from various sectors including tea, sustainability, information technology, and biotechnology.
The new funding will support Croft’s innovative farmer-owned FPC model, which includes the establishment of its inaugural mini-factory located in Billicombai near Kotagiri, as stated in a recent press release.
Founded by Harish Kannan, Croft Beverages is committed to developing a sustainable system aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of small-scale tea producers. The platform’s mission is to deliver ethically sourced tea that is traceable to its origins, transparent in its trading practices, and significantly beneficial for farmers. Croft’s ambitious plan includes establishing over 100 farmer-owned mini-factories and empowering more than 3,000 small farmers in the Nilgiris region by the year 2030.
Key Strategies and Partnerships
As reported by the Tamil Nadu-based company, through strategic measures such as ensuring 100% “farm-to-cup” traceability and employing superior agronomy practices, Croft has established vital partnerships with top brands in the country under its “direct from origin” model. The initial batch of tea produced by the farmers’ factory has already sold out, with Croft now advancing plans to develop three additional farmer-owned factories by 2025.
Impact on Local Farmers
Croft asserts that each mini-factory effectively transforms 25 small farmers into entrepreneurs, tripling their income and enhancing their economic stability.
