Vivo X300 Pro: The Ultimate Camera Phone Experience
When it comes to Vivo’s new X series flagship, conversations often revolve around its camera capabilities. With the introduction of the X300 Pro, the anticipation increases as it combines significant optical advancements with a state-of-the-art battery, cutting-edge MediaTek chipset, and an unprecedented software makeover.
The initial days spent with the X300 Pro involved using it as the primary device. Capturing images during golden hour in Lodhi Gardens, taking handheld night shots near India Gate, enjoying HDR content on YouTube under bright sunlight, and testing the impressive 6510 mAh battery amid the busy traffic of Delhi. The key takeaway extends beyond just Vivo’s aspiration; it’s about how efficiently the phone realises its goals.
This model represents the most well-rounded flagship in the X series yet, feeling less like a specialised camera phone and more like a complete package.
Design and Display: A Premium Experience
The most striking feature is undoubtedly the display. Vivo showcases its innovative LTPO technology in this model, featuring a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED screen that boasts a sharp 1.5K resolution and remarkable peak brightness reaching up to 4500 nits. Even under the harsh winter sun at India Gate, the screen remained clear and vibrant without the need for manual brightness adjustment.
The colour accuracy tends toward natural tones rather than oversaturation, with enhanced motion performance, benefiting significantly from an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 0.1 to 120 Hz. The software intelligently transitions to the lowest refresh rate when displaying still images or text, instantly boosting back to 120 Hz while scrolling.
Minimal bezels measuring 1.15 mm and a nearly indistinguishable front camera punch hole enhance the aesthetic. The metal frame features a matte finish that exudes luxury and repels fingerprints. Weighing 226 grams, it feels substantial, although the balanced weight distribution ensures comfort during prolonged use.
Additionally, Vivo’s newly introduced Armor Glass offers enhanced durability, while the IP68 and IP69 ratings provide significant protection against water and dust.
Camera System: Built for Enthusiasts
The X300 Pro showcases its ambition through its impressive camera setup.
Rear cameras:
• 50 MP primary with Sony LYT828 sensor, f/1.57, OIS
• 50 MP ultra-wide with Samsung JN1
• 200 MP ZEISS APO periscope telephoto, 1/1.4 inch sensor, f/2.67, OIS, 3.7x optical zoom
• Telephoto macro mode and long-range bird mode
Front camera:
• 50 MP autofocus with Samsung JN1
The primary camera captures astonishing detail in daylight with a dynamic range that compares favourably with flagship models from Pixel and Galaxy. Low-light capabilities excel, especially with the refined algorithm developed for the LYT828. Colour fidelity remains intact while avoiding excessive noise.
The ultra-wide camera maintains strong performance during daylight and is still practical in low-light conditions, with improved edge clarity compared to the previous model.
The standout feature is the new 200 MP periscope lens. The APO correction significantly reduces chromatic aberration, and the 85 mm focal length is ideal for portrait shots. Enhanced macro capabilities allow for detailed shots from a distance using the telephoto macro mode, making it easier to photograph intricate subjects such as insects or jewellery.
Even at extended zoom levels, the reduced frame shake is noteworthy.
Night mode leverages advanced ZEISS colour science, yielding sharp results without over-processing.
Video performance is impressive with 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps for the rear cameras, while the front camera supports 4K at 60 fps with Dolby Vision. The built-in OIS and EIS complement one another perfectly, producing cinematic-like portrait video that appears authentic.
For photography enthusiasts, this camera system is truly enjoyable.
Software and OriginOS 6: A Dramatic Visual Upgrade
The X300 Pro operates on Android 16 alongside OriginOS 6, making it one of the earliest devices in India to feature this combination. OriginOS has always prioritised animations, and the updated Origin Smooth Engine enhances this with thoughtful motion effects.
Notable features include:
• Dynamic Glow and translucent lighting effects
• Immersive Weather with animated live scenes
• New grid layout and adaptive folders
• Live widgets powered by Origin Island
• Drag and Go for swift multi-app content transfers
• AI Retouch for photo enhancement and cleanup
• Integrated Android 16 Live Updates at the system level
• Advanced cross-device features for Mac and Windows
The user interface is sleek and highly responsive. However, the presence of bloatware is a drawback, with apps like Facebook and Netflix pre-installed, though they can be removed. Unfortunately, they resurface after a reset, which can be bothersome.
Vivo commits to providing five Android updates and seven years of security patches, aligning its longevity promise with leading brands like Samsung and Google, significantly enhancing the X300 Pro’s overall value proposition.
Performance and Gaming: Dimensity 9500 Unleashed
Equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, the phone demonstrates impressive speed and efficiency. The new cores signify a substantial performance boost in single-core tasks. Everyday operations are smooth, with multitasking being remarkably easy thanks to the 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM.
In gaming scenarios, titles such as BGMI, COD Mobile, and Genshin Impact maintained stable frame rates and kept device temperatures manageable, thanks to an extensive vapour chamber cooling system featuring an advanced capillary design that optimises heat distribution.
While some thermal throttling was observed during extended stress testing, it did not significantly disrupt standard usage.
Benchmark results are impressive; however, the notable aspect is the device’s overall reliability under various conditions.
Connectivity and Biometrics: Comprehensive Features
The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is both swift and dependable, and face unlock functions seamlessly in well-lit environments.
Connectivity options are extensive, featuring Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, eSIM capabilities, NFC, and USB 3.2 Gen1. Call quality is consistently excellent, and the phone includes call recording functionality without voice notifications. Throughout the review period, no connectivity issues were encountered.
Audio and Media: Exceptional Sound Quality
The stereo speakers deliver surprisingly rich sound, showcasing clear highs and adequate lows for an enjoyable gaming and video experience. Headphone output is pristine, enhanced by Smart DeepField effects.
HDR playback is supported on platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube, with Dolby Vision being well integrated.
Battery Life: A Standout Feature
The most significant upgrade from the X200 Pro lies in the extensive battery life. The enormous 6510 mAh silicon carbon battery ensures the device is lighter than its predecessor. Users can expect nearly two days of usage, with around six hours of screen time. On certain occasions, with moderate GPS and camera activity, battery life extended even further.
Rapid charging capabilities include 90W wired and 40W wireless options. A full charge from zero to fifty percent takes less than twenty minutes. For achieving the fastest charging speeds, fast charging must be enabled manually, though the phone warms slightly without being concerning.
This flagship phone features one of the longest-lasting batteries available in India.
