Swiggy Delivery Incident Raises Concerns Over Safety and Data Privacy
A recent Reddit discussion highlighting a peculiar Swiggy delivery incident in Bengaluru has sparked widespread concern regarding data security and personal safety.
A man reported that his girlfriend received a call from an individual who identified himself as a Swiggy delivery agent. The caller informed her that he had a parcel addressed to her boyfriend and requested that she open the door for him.
However, she did not get any delivery notification through NoBrokerHood, which is a security service that requires residents to approve visitor access. The situation grew increasingly alarming when her boyfriend checked his accounts and realised he had not made any order on her behalf.
As the man noted, “Since she wasn’t at home, she asked him to leave it at the door. But I haven’t placed any orders for her. None of my delivery accounts list her address under my name.”
Upon verifying her own accounts and consulting friends, she confirmed that no one else had placed an order for her either. When she arrived home, there was no delivery left outside.
She stated, “She checked her accounts for similar occurrences and inquired if anyone had ordered for her, but no one had. Upon returning home, she did not find anything at her door. Something seems off. Has anyone else experienced this?”
Online Reactions: Scam or Something More?
Reddit users chimed in with their own experiences, suggesting the situation might be a scam linked to cash-on-delivery fraud or a potential data breach.
One user commented, “This seems like a classic scam. The package would be cash on delivery. Your girlfriend might have ended up paying for an inexpensive item or even an empty box.”
Another shared their encounter, stating, “A similar bizarre episode occurred with me. I received an Amazon package containing a cable I never ordered, and the oddity is that it was delivered to my name, despite not having an Amazon account. I always use my mother’s Prime account, which is registered under her name for purchases. It’s puzzling.”
While Swiggy has yet to respond to the attention this incident has garnered, it has raised pressing issues regarding safety and data privacy in the realm of online deliveries.
