Google Gemini Support for iPhone and iPad Users

Google is informing iPhone and iPad users about the discontinuation of Gemini support in the primary Google app, encouraging a transition to the dedicated Gemini app. Previously, iOS users had the option to access Gemini through the Google app, allowing them to toggle between Google Search and Gemini. However, as Google introduced additional functionalities for Gemini, including Gemini Live, these enhancements were not incorporated into the Google app. The shift in focus led to the development of the standalone Gemini app, which made its debut in November.

Now, Google has officially removed Gemini from the Google app. Users are receiving notifications via email stating that Gemini is ‘no longer available’ within this app and that the full Gemini app is ‘the ideal platform to utilise Gemini’ moving forward. A report from 9to5Google highlights that the email suggests users download the new Gemini app from the App Store to gain access to all features, including those that were initially inaccessible in the Google app.

Earlier this month, Google had already taken away the switcher feature, but users could still reach Gemini through the ‘More’ section in the Google app (version v356.0) on iOS devices. A prompt now encourages users to download the dedicated Gemini app from the App Store to maintain their experience. This alteration is part of Google’s strategy to optimise the Gemini experience, ensuring that all features and updates are available within one focused application.
