Nothing Phone (3a) Series Unveiled in India with Major Enhancements

London-based consumer technology brand Nothing has officially launched the Phone (3a) Series in India, showcasing important improvements in design, camera functionalities, and overall performance. This launch follows the popularity of the Phone (2a), introducing models equipped with optical zoom, AI-driven computational photography, and a Snapdragon processor for enhanced speed and efficiency.

The Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro will be available for purchase commencing March 11, with introductory pricing starting at ₹19,999 for the basic variant.

Design and Display Improvements

Nothing has polished the design of the Phone (3a) Series, featuring a revamped glass back, greater symmetry in its internal layout, and an IP64 rating for protection against dust and water. The smartphones are claimed to possess the lowest carbon footprint of any Nothing device to date, emitting merely 51.3 kg of CO2e.

Both models offer a 6.77-inch Full HD+ display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate providing smoother scrolling and enhanced responsiveness. The peak brightness has been escalated to 3000 nits, representing a 131% increase from the earlier Phone (2a), ensuring improved visibility outdoors.

Camera Enhancements with Optical Zoom

The Phone (3a) Series showcases Nothing’s most sophisticated camera system to date, which includes an upgraded 50MP main sensor alongside a Sony ultra-wide sensor. For the first time, optical zoom has been integrated:

• Phone (3a): Features a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, capable of up to 4x lossless in-sensor zoom. AI algorithms facilitate a 30x ultra zoom for capturing distant images.
• Phone (3a) Pro: Comes with a 70mm periscope zoom lens, 3x optical zoom, and 6x lossless in-sensor zoom, with AI enhancements allowing zoom levels to reach up to 60x ultra zoom. The periscope camera can focus as near as 15cm, a feature typically missing in other flagship devices with similar technology.
• Front Cameras: The Phone (3a) includes a 32MP selfie camera, while the Phone (3a) Pro features a 50MP front camera that supports 4K recording with AI stabilization and enhanced night video capabilities.

Performance and Battery Capability

The series runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, providing a 33% boost in CPU performance and an 11% increase in GPU efficiency compared to its predecessor. The devices also present 92% improved AI processing, making them more adept for upcoming AI-related applications.

For gaming enthusiasts, these models support Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, along with a 1000Hz touch sampling rate in Gaming Mode. To aid in heat management, a 4,500 mm² vapor chamber ensures a 23% reduction in temperature compared to the Phone (2a).

Battery life has seen enhancements as well, featuring a 5000mAh battery that can last up to two days during typical usage. Charging capabilities have been upgraded to 50W, allowing for a 50% charge in less than 20 minutes.

Nothing OS 3.1 and Essential Space

The Phone (3a) Series operates on Nothing OS 3.1, based on Android 15, which introduces better customization options and stability. Essential Space, an innovative AI-driven hub for notes and ideas, has also been launched. An Essential Key located on the side of the phone enables users to swiftly capture and organise their thoughts.
