WhatsApp Enhances Connectivity with New Instagram Linking Feature

WhatsApp is set to introduce an innovative feature that will enable users to connect their Instagram profiles directly to their WhatsApp accounts. This feature was initially identified by WABetaInfo within the WhatsApp Beta for iOS version 25.7.10.70 and is presently being trialled by a select group of beta users.

Linking Instagram Profiles on WhatsApp

Once this feature is fully integrated, users will have the opportunity to showcase their Instagram profile links beneath their WhatsApp profile picture and name. This enhancement will facilitate easier connections across Meta’s platforms for users’ contacts. Importantly, the feature will be optional, allowing individuals the choice to link their Instagram accounts or maintain them separately.

Privacy Control for Linked Instagram Profiles

WhatsApp will also empower users to manage visibility settings regarding their linked Instagram profiles. The existing privacy controls will include options such as ‘Everyone,’ ‘My contacts,’ ‘My contacts except,’ and ‘Nobody,’ thereby ensuring that users can tailor their visibility preferences effortlessly.

Future Prospects for WhatsApp’s Instagram Integration

As it stands, Instagram is the sole platform supported for this linking feature; however, there is speculation that WhatsApp may extend this functionality to additional Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook and Threads, in the future.

Current Availability and Development Status

At this moment, the feature is available exclusively to a limited number of beta testers via Apple’s TestFlight programme. WABetaInfo indicates that it remains in the developmental phase and may soon be accessible to more beta users in the following weeks. A similar feature was previously offered in preview mode for WhatsApp for iOS but did not see a wider rollout. It is noteworthy that WhatsApp Business already permits users to manually link their Instagram profiles through a distinct authentication process.

WhatsApp has yet to disclose when this feature will be made available to all iOS users or whether it will be available for Android devices in the future.
