Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3: The Fastest Ever Running Shoe
Puma has unveiled the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3, a third-generation supershoe that is set to transform marathon season with its designation as the brand’s fastest running shoe to date.
While its bold design continues to attract attention, Puma has implemented significant improvements beneath the surface. The Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 has shed an impressive 95g compared to its earlier model, making it the lightest racing shoe Puma has ever produced.
Performance Enhancements of the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3
The key assertion from a study conducted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst indicates that this shoe provides a 3.15% enhancement in running economy compared to other leading models. This improvement could result in considerable time reductions in marathon performances, which is particularly noteworthy for competitive athletes.
Wouter Hoogkamer, an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at UMass Amherst, who led the research, highlighted the significance, stating that reducing marathon times by minutes is a goal many train for extensively.
Comparative Testing Results
In tests detailed by Believe in the Run, the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 exhibited a 3.62% enhancement in running economy when positioned against the Nike Alphafly 3 and a 3.56% increase over the Adidas Adios Pro Evo 1, establishing it as a notable breakthrough within the super shoe market.
Key Features of the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3
The Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 boasts a 40mm heel stack and weighs a mere 170g, incorporating Puma’s innovative PWRPlate carbon plate technology to provide superior propulsion. Grip is ensured by Pumagrip, the same outsole material found in previous shoes from the brand.
Puma has also introduced a new iteration of its Nitro foam in the midsole, which is now connected by a bridge spanning the forefoot to the heel, allowing for more stable transitions. The upper part is constructed from a lightweight, breathable mesh, contributing further to the shoe’s reduced weight.
Puma Athletes in Action
At upcoming events such as the Boston and London marathons, Puma-sponsored athletes will don the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3. This includes participants from the brand’s Project3 initiative, where runners are tasked with achieving personal bests for an opportunity to win a $3,000 prize.
Price and Availability of the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3
The Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 is set to retail at $300, representing a $40 increase over its predecessor. This price adjustment is attributed to significant improvements in design and materials, as stated by Puma. The shoe will be available globally starting from 25 April through Puma.com, flagship locations, and selected retailers. Information regarding its release in India remains unclear. The previous model was priced at ₹21,999 and has currently sold out on the Puma India website.
