Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3: The Ultimate Supershoe for Runners
Puma has unveiled the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3, the third generation of its renowned supershoe, just in time for marathon season. Known as the fastest running shoe from the brand, it promises remarkable performance for serious runners.
Lightweight Design for Enhanced Performance
The shoe boasts an eye-catching aggressive design while implementing substantial modifications internally. Weighing in at an astonishingly light 170g, the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 sheds 95g compared to its predecessor, making it the lightest option available for race day.
Significant Boost in Running Economy
The standout feature is its reported 3.15% enhancement in running economy, as per research from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This improvement may lead to valuable minutes knocked off marathon completion times, a crucial factor for competitive athletes.
Wouter Hoogkamer, an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at UMass Amherst and the study leader, remarked on the potential impact, noting that years of training might only shave off a minute from a marathon time.
Comparative Testing Results
In tests outlined by Believe in the Run, the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 surpassed the Nike Alphafly 3 with a 3.62% better running economy, and outperformed the Adidas Adios Pro Evo 1 by 3.56%. This positions the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 as a groundbreaking super shoe.
Advanced Technology and Features
This innovative shoe includes a 40mm heel stack and is engineered with Puma’s PWRPlate carbon plate technology to provide superior propulsion. Furthermore, it utilises Pumagrip for traction, consistent with previous models.
A new iteration of Nitro foam has been integrated into the midsole, now featuring a connector bridge between the forefoot and heel to ensure smoother transitions. The upper design employs a minimal breathable mesh, contributing to the shoe’s lightweight nature.
Puma Athletes and Upcoming Marathons
Puma-sponsored runners will showcase the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 during the Boston and London marathons. Participants in the brand’s Project3 initiative will aim to set personal bests for a chance to win a $3,000 prize.
Pricing and Availability
The Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 is priced at $300, reflecting a $40 increase from its previous model due to significant design upgrades. Set to be available globally from April 25 through Puma.com, flagship stores, and select retailers, details regarding its release in India remain unclear. The former version of this shoe was priced at ₹21,999 and is currently out of stock on the Puma India website.
