Krutrim’s Strategic Acquisition of BharatSahAIyak Enhances Public Sector AI Solutions
Krutrim, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, has successfully acquired BharatSahAIyak, a firm dedicated to AI solutions in the public sector, previously owned by technology consulting company Samagra. The financial details of this transaction have not been revealed.
Since its inception in 2023, Krutrim has focused on developing a comprehensive AI ecosystem, featuring proprietary models across language, vision, and speech capabilities. This acquisition is intended to accelerate the application of its technology in vital public infrastructure domains such as healthcare, education, and governance.
Strengthening AI Implementations for Public Services
BharatSahAIyak has been instrumental in advancing AI-powered solutions for public services. With this acquisition, Krutrim significantly enhances its execution capabilities to implement real-world applications, especially through collaborations with government entities.
A spokesperson for Krutrim noted that this integration bolsters the company’s mission to develop inclusive and intuitive AI systems that resonate with the everyday experiences of individuals in India. The focus on making “AI for all” a tangible reality reflects Krutrim’s commitment to empowering every person with accessible technology.
Recent Developments at Krutrim
This acquisition follows a wave of announcements from Krutrim, which include the unveiling of the Krutrim AI Lab and BharatBench—an open-source initiative aimed at promoting AI research in India. Additionally, the company plans to expand its data centre capacity to 1 GW by 2028 and has pledged up to $1.2 billion in funding in the coming years.
Having secured around $75 million in funding, Krutrim entered the unicorn status in January 2024. The company’s investors include Z47 (previously known as Matrix), the Sarin Family, among others. Recently, Krutrim was also noted in connection with potential fundraising activities, though official sources have dismissed any ongoing discussions.
Leadership Changes Amid Acquisition
This strategic acquisition coincides with the departure of three senior leaders from Ola Krutrim. Recent reports indicate that Senior Director John Williamson, Head of Engineering Dinesh Mittal, and Director of Applied AI Sharath Adavanne have all left the company.
