Sandisk has unveiled an impressive 256TB NVMe enterprise SSD at the Flash Memory Summit (FMS) 2025, enabled by its innovative UltraQLC platform. This advancement marks a notable enhancement in storage performance, efficiency, and density, specifically catering to hyper-scale and AI-driven applications.

The UltraQLC platform leverages BiCS8 QLC CBA NAND technology, customised controllers, and sophisticated system-level enhancements. As per the company’s insights, this platform is crafted to meet the growing requirements of AI and data-heavy tasks, including data ingestion, preparation, and swift AI data lakes.

Innovations in the Sandisk UltraQLC 256TB NVMe SSD

The new Sandisk UltraQLC 256TB NVMe SSD showcases several advancements designed to boost performance and decrease power consumption, including:

• Direct Write QLC: This feature removes SLC buffering while ensuring power-loss safe writes on the initial attempt.
• BiCS8 2Tb QLC Die: This component doubles storage density without increasing the die size.
• Dynamic Frequency Scaling: This technology is anticipated to enhance performance by up to 10% for a specific power level.
• Scalable Multi-Core Controller: Built to manage high throughput and endurance at extensive capacities.
• Data Retention (DR) Profile: Expected to lower DR recycles by as much as 33%, thereby contributing to reliability and energy efficiency improvements.

Additional Offerings from Sandisk

Alongside the flagship 256TB model, Sandisk has also launched the SN670 128TB NVMe SSD. Both models will be available in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026, with plans to release additional formats later in the year.
