WhatsApp Introduces New Features for Group Calls
WhatsApp has introduced new functionalities for scheduling group calls and sending advance invitations, enhancing the platform’s utility for both personal and professional interactions. The messaging service confirmed this enhancement in a blog update, emphasizing that all calls are safeguarded with end-to-end encryption.
How to Schedule a Call on WhatsApp
To schedule a call, users should:
- Select the + button in the Calls section
- Choose the ‘Schedule call’ option
- Add the participants or groups to invite
- Invited attendees will receive reminder notifications ahead of the call
Users can manage all upcoming calls within the same section, where a list of participants and call links will be available. The individual who creates the call link will also be notified when someone joins the call.
Enhanced Interaction Features during Calls
In addition to scheduling capabilities, WhatsApp is introducing features that allow users to express themselves during calls. This includes reaction options and a “raise hand” feature, which will make group discussions more engaging and interactive.
Recent Updates and Future Plans
This enhancement follows the platform’s previous release in June of the “Message Summaries” feature, which leverages MetaAI technology to generate overviews of private chats. This helps users quickly summarise unread conversations without needing to scroll through every message.
As per reports from AFP, WhatsApp’s parent company Meta is also preparing to roll out new monetisation features in its Updates tab. These will comprise paid channel subscriptions, promoted channels in the Discovery directory, and advertisements within the Status feature.
