Star Localmart Expands with Acquisition of DusMinute
Star Localmart, the retail division of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), has successfully acquired DusMinute, a retail chain based in Bengaluru that operates within gated communities, for an undisclosed sum. This strategic acquisition increases Star Localmart’s total store count to 170. The company primarily targets tier-II to tier-VI towns, providing modern supermarket-style shopping experiences to consumers in rural areas. It has also outlined plans for further expansion throughout Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The long-term vision targets the establishment of 3,000 stores by 2030, alongside a revenue goal of Rs 5,000 crore over the next five years.
DusMinute manages 40 retail outlets situated within residential complexes and offers essential items such as groceries, fruits, vegetables, and household provisions. Additionally, it features app-based delivery directly to consumers’ doorsteps for enhanced convenience. This approach aligns seamlessly with Star Localmart’s mission to deliver modern, affordable retail experiences to diverse communities.
In July 2023, DusMinute successfully secured Rs 11.5 crore in a bridge funding round led by Inflection Point Ventures, with contributions from banker Bandana Kankani. Among its investors are the Indian Angel Network along with several individual angel investors.
Currently, Star Localmart operates over 130 stores across 50 towns in Western Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka. Each store stocks more than 3,000 SKUs, incorporating a mix of national, regional, and local brands. Moreover, the company is committed to promoting job creation and offering training within the communities it serves.
Established in 2020, Star Localmart is developing a retail network in smaller towns through compact, multi-brand store formats. By integrating DusMinute’s hyperlocal model with its growing presence, Star Localmart aims to enhance consumer relations and solidify its leadership role within India’s regional retail market.
