YouTube’s Multi-Language Audio Feature Expands for Global Creators
YouTube is enhancing its multi-language audio feature after a two-year pilot, allowing creators to incorporate dubbed tracks in various languages and connect with global audiences like never before. This feature will roll out to millions of creators in the upcoming weeks.
Innovations from the Pilot Phase
During the pilot phase in 2023, which featured prominent creators such as MrBeast, Mark Rober, and Jamie Oliver, YouTube introduced AI-driven auto-dubbing utilising Google’s Gemini model. This tool captures the creators’ tone and emotion while automating the translation process.
Impact on Audience Engagement
Creators implementing the multi-language audio feature have experienced over 25% of their watch time originating from viewers speaking non-primary languages. For instance, Jamie Oliver’s channel saw a threefold increase in views after he adopted dubbed audio. Mark Rober reportedly adds up to 30 language tracks per video, allowing audiences in places like Seoul and São Paulo to enjoy his content simultaneously.
Testing Multi-Language Thumbnails
YouTube is also exploring the use of multi-language thumbnails, which enables creators to customise thumbnails according to the viewer’s language. This feature enhances the connection between creators and diverse audiences, improving relevance and engagement.
Streamlined Localisation Benefits
This streamlined approach to localisation removes the necessity of maintaining separate language channels, making global distribution more straightforward. Now, audiences can enjoy dubbed content in their preferred language, with matching thumbnails coming soon.
