Carbon Masters India Secures Equity Funding for Circular Economy Solutions
Carbon Masters India is a pioneering climate-tech company focused on promoting circular economy solutions. Recently, the firm has successfully obtained a new equity round led by Schneider Electric Energy Access Asia (SEEAA), Sangam Ventures, and IAN Group, with the amount remaining undisclosed. The funding round also featured participation from industry experts such as Sriram Sankaran of Synchron Group and Muthu Murugappan from Murugappa Group. As part of this arrangement, Vikram Raman from SEEAA and Sriram Sankaran have been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.
Use of Proceeds from Funding
The funds will be allocated to various initiatives, including the expansion of Carbonlites CBG production, scaling up the organic fertiliser line, enhancing operational efficiency, and bolstering teams within sales, marketing, and research and development.
About Carbon Masters
Founded by Som Narayan and Kevin Houston, Carbon Masters focuses on converting organic waste that would typically end up in landfills into renewable biomethane and bio-enriched organic manure, all marketed under the prominent Carbonlites brand. The company operates through special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and collaborates with waste management partners via joint ventures.
Joint Ventures and Waste Management
One of its significant ventures, Sustainable Impacts, in conjunction with Hasiru Dala Innovations, manages one of Bengaluru’s few authorised wet waste facilities tailored for bulk generators. This facility has received pipeline injection clearance from GAIL, allowing it to inject biomethane directly into India’s gas grid.
Products and Environmental Impact
Carbon Masters produces Compressed Bio-Methane Gas (CBG) and bio-enriched organic manure under its Carbonlites brand. This clean fuel serves a range of customers, including commercial kitchens, industries, transport fleets, and city gas networks, while simultaneously enhancing soil health for farmers. The company boasts five CBG plants located in Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, collectively processing over 36,000 tonnes of municipal waste each year.
Future Initiatives
The brand is gearing up for its next equity raise, which aims to finance five new SPVs, with Ostara Advisors appointed as the transaction advisor.
