Tsalla Aerospace Secures Funding for Advanced Autonomous Systems

Tsalla Aerospace has successfully raised $1 million in its inaugural external funding round, spearheaded by Sunny Stalnaker, the executive VP at ASML. This funding also received backing from SIDBI and equity-free grants from the Ministry of Defence’s Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) programme. The financial support will be directed towards the enhancement of its autonomous systems platform and the scaling of deployments for defence and industrial applications.

About Tsalla Aerospace

Established in 2019 and incubated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Tsalla Aerospace develops an AI-driven autonomy stack for drones and unmanned systems. The company’s AI Pilot is designed to enable unmanned platforms to operate independently of GPS or communication support, with the goal of functioning without the need for any operator intervention.

Collaborations with Defence Forces

Tsalla is actively collaborating with the Indian Navy and Indian Army on several initiatives. These projects encompass confined-space reconnaissance systems, backpack-based VTOL platforms crafted for single-person use, as well as logistics applications such as ship-to-ship deliveries under challenging weather conditions.

Competitive Landscape

In its sector, Tsalla competes with various domestic defence and autonomy firms including ideaForge, NewSpace Research & Tech, Sagar Defence, and CRON Systems, along with international dual-use autonomy developers.

Future Funding Plans

As stated by the company, there are plans to raise an additional $8 million in a seed round, aimed at augmenting its autonomy stack, increasing deployments within India and on a global scale, and penetrating new defence and industrial sectors.
