Electric Tractor Innovations: Moonrider’s Successful Funding Round
Electric tractor company Moonrider, based in Bengaluru, has secured $6 million during its Series A funding round, which was led by pi Ventures. Other participants included Singularity AMC and previous investors Advantedge Founders and Micelio Fund. Earlier in January, Moonrider had successfully raised $2.2 million (Rs 19 crore) in a seed round, co-led by AdvantEdge Founders and Micelio Technology Fund, along with several angel investors. This latest funding will aid the company’s transition from pilot testing to a wide-scale commercial rollout.
About Moonrider
Founded in 2023 by Anoop Srikantaswamy, Moonrider creates electric tractors aimed at significantly reducing the costs associated with farming and land preparation. The company utilises vertical integration across drivetrain, battery systems, and electronics to develop its innovative platform. According to the company, its electric tractors are capable of cutting farming costs by as much as 80% and are competitively priced compared to diesel tractors.
Market Potential for Electric Tractors
Moonrider’s focus is on heavy-duty electric tractors designed to decrease agricultural costs while enhancing operational efficiency. Market analysis indicates that India currently registers annual sales of approximately one million diesel tractors. The adoption of electric tractors is anticipated to increase as fuel and operating expenses continue to affect farm profitability.
In a related development, Tractor Junction, a marketplace tailored for tractors, recently secured $22 million in a funding round that was led by Astanor, with contributions from Info Edge and Omnivore.
