Airpay Payment Services Receives RBI Authorisation

Airpay Payment Services Receives RBI Authorisation

Mumbai-based airpay Payment Services has obtained permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to function across the entire payment-aggregator framework, finalising approvals for online (PA-O), physical/POS and QR (PA-P), as well as cross-border (PA-CB) services. With this authorisation, airpay becomes part of an exclusive group of regulated entities capable of managing both domestic and international payments at various merchant touchpoints through a unified compliant system. Recent additions to this select group include Razorpay, Easebuzz, PayU, and Pine Labs.

The company indicated that these approvals will enable it to provide collections, payouts, and settlements for Indian businesses, D2C brands, and SMEs operating both domestically and internationally. Airpay forecasts that the broadened license scope will lead to a 30–40% rise in processing volumes over the next 6 to 12 months. Additionally, it anticipates that more than 20% of its revenue will derive from cross-border transactions during this period, along with the onboarding of over 50,000 merchants.

Airpay’s Expanding Capabilities

Established in 2012, airpay is involved in UPI acquiring, QR transactions, payment links, PoS, and merchant lifecycle management. With all three licenses successfully in place, the company is now well-equipped to facilitate online, offline, and cross-border commerce from a single regulated framework as Indian businesses look to expand beyond domestic markets. This advancement is likely to lessen settlement risks and compliance burdens for exporters, SaaS companies, subscription businesses, and D2C brands aiming for markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
