Sustainability Mafia Receives CSR Grant for Climate Action Initiatives

The Sustainability Mafia (SusMafia), a non-profit dedicated to climate education, early-stage incubation, and ecosystem development, has been awarded a Rs 2 crore CSR grant from Zerodha. The funds will facilitate the creation of a skilled, environmentally conscious workforce and assist climate-tech startups in expanding solutions that make a significant impact in crucial areas like air quality, water and sanitation, waste management, carbon reduction, and the circular economy, as stated in a press release from SusMafia.

Founded in 2018, The Sustainability Mafia is a non-profit that connects entrepreneurs, investors, and leaders, aiming to make sustainability a standard practice. It encourages collaboration, enhances capacity for climate technology, and promotes sustainable solutions through targeted programs designed for founders, investors, and students. This platform functions as a coalition, harnessing shared resources, networks, and expertise to tackle challenges within the climate action sector, with the goal of launching startups, creating climate-focused jobs, and unlocking funding for a greener future in India.

According to the Bengaluru-based organization, its initiatives focus on addressing essential gaps in the climate ecosystem. This includes the shortage of industry-ready talent, support for early-stage validation for founders, and dependable platforms that link innovators with capital, corporations, and practical pilot projects.

Through its Climate Ninja program, it reports having trained over 400 climate professionals. Additionally, its early-stage incubation efforts have allocated Rs 1 crore in grants to aid emerging climate ventures. Presently, this initiative is supported by a robust and expanding network of over 80 climate entrepreneurs, collectively making an impact across various sectors.

Nithin Kamath, CEO of Zerodha, commented that strong climate outcomes arise when founders, practitioners, and learners have access to the right insights and support at the start of their journeys. The Sustainability Engine Foundation is establishing these vital connections within the climate ecosystem, and he expressed satisfaction in supporting their efforts.

The Sustainability Mafia aims to train over 300 Climate Ninjas, assist more than 20 early-stage climate startups, and host regional and national ecosystem gatherings such as SusCrunch, uniting stakeholders across the climate and sustainability spectrum.
