Ola Electric Mobility Ltd Stake Sale by SoftBank

SoftBank, via its investment entity SVF II Ostrich (DE) LLC, has divested a 2.15% share in Ola Electric Mobility Ltd through several open-market transactions, as indicated by regulatory disclosures with stock exchanges. According to the announcement, SVF II Ostrich sold nearly 9.5 crore equity shares of Ola Electric from September 3, 2025, to January 5, 2026. This transaction necessitated a mandatory disclosure as the cumulative sale surpassed the 2% threshold set by takeover regulations.

Shareholding Changes at Ola Electric

Prior to the sale, SVF II Ostrich possessed 69.16 crore shares, equating to a 15.68% stake in the total equity of Ola Electric. After the divestiture, its holdings have decreased to 59.7 crore shares, representing a diminished stake of 13.53% in the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Previous Stake Sales

In a similar move last year, SoftBank executed a share sale between July and September 2025, where it offloaded approximately 9.5 crore shares, reducing its stake from 17.83% to 15.68%.

Challenges Facing Ola Electric

Ola Electric is navigating a challenging period as its stock continues to trade at record lows due to lacklustre market sentiment. The situation has been aggravated by stake sales from various investors and a partial share divestiture by founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, heightening concerns regarding confidence and the short-term outlook for the electric vehicle maker.

Sales Performance Overview

Regarding electric vehicle sales for December, Ola reported a relatively stable performance with sales of 8,402 units. Its market share grew by 2% to 9.03%, positioning the company in fifth place. In comparison, its competitor, Ather Energy, sold 16,391 units, achieving a market share of 17.62% last month.
