Humain Raises $1.2 Billion to Transform AI Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia
Humain, the leading national AI company in Saudi Arabia, has successfully secured funding of $1.2 billion (around Rs 11,000 crore) from the National Infrastructure Fund. This investment, revealed on January 21, aims to significantly enhance Saudi Arabia’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and lessen dependence on external technology providers.
Expansion of AI Infrastructure
A report from Reuters highlights that this capital investment will be allocated towards acquiring advanced semiconductors and developing an AI data centre capacity of up to 250 megawatts. This new infrastructure will facilitate the training of sovereign AI models, ensuring that data processing and intellectual property remain secure within Saudi Arabia.
Shifting Focus towards AI Strategy
As the foremost oil exporter globally, Saudi Arabia is making strides to move away from its past reliance on hydrocarbons, rapidly advancing its artificial intelligence initiatives. The nation aims to leverage the global rise in demand for computing power, viewing technology-driven economic growth as a core component of diversifying its national revenue.
About Humain
Humain is central to this transformation, having been established last year and is entirely owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). Charged with leading the national AI agenda, Humain has already secured a number of notable partnerships, including strategic agreements with Elon Musk’s xAI and the Blackstone-supported company AirTrunk, to launch extensive data centre projects. The organisation has set a bold long-term objective, aiming to achieve a total power capacity of around 6 gigawatts by 2034.
Collaboration with Infra
Humain was officially inaugurated in May 2025 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. In collaboration with Infra, a division of the Saudi National Development Fund, Humain is exploring the establishment of a specialised investment platform for AI data centres. This joint initiative is intended to provide a gateway for both local and international institutional investors, furnishing the necessary financial support to expand Humain’s AI ambitions on a worldwide level.
