IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh Transfers to NTA

The transfer of IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh marks a notable change within government positions. Singh, who is a 1995-batch IAS officer from the Nagaland cadre, is moving from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to take on the role of director general at the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the Ministry of Education. This decision was officially announced on March 31, 2026.

Currently, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has yet to disclose who will succeed Singh at MeitY, where he also held the position of Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

This transfer happens shortly after the IndiaAI Impact Summit, which successfully convened global leaders in technology. However, the event also faced backlash due to logistical concerns and security issues.

Challenges Ahead for Singh at NTA

The timing of Singh’s new role at the NTA coincides with heightened scrutiny regarding the administration of national-level computer-based examinations. Thus, Singh is stepping into a challenging position that entails significant responsibility.

Additional Transfers Approved by ACC

The transfer of Singh is part of a larger reorganisation of senior government positions sanctioned by the ACC. Other notable appointments include Chanchal Kumar, a 1992-batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, taking over as the new information and broadcasting secretary. Additionally, Sanjay Lohiya has been appointed as secretary of the Ministry of Mines and as special secretary in the Department of Financial Services within the Ministry of Finance.

With a new leader appointed at NTA, industry experts will be keenly observing who will assume leadership at MeitY to steer the next chapter of India’s digital advancement.
