Amazon’s Cloud Facility in Bahrain Faces Damage After Iranian Strike
Amazon’s cloud facility has encountered damage in Bahrain following an Iranian attack. Reports began to emerge shortly after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards cautioned US technology firms, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Meta, indicating they could be targets in West Asia.
Details of the Iranian Strike on Amazon’s Operations
As detailed by a Financial Times article, the Iranian strike impacted the headquarters of Batelco, the primary telecommunications provider in the country that oversees Amazon Web Services (AWS) systems within the region. Bahrain’s interior ministry has validated that a fire erupted at a facility associated with the company after the Iranian assault, although it stopped short of explicitly naming Amazon.
Amazon’s History with Iranian Disruptions
While the Iranian guards have set their sights on US tech titans, this isn’t the first strike aimed at Amazon. Last month, the organisation acknowledged that its cloud facilities were impacted by the Iranian strike, leading to disruptions in AWS services amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Previously, Amazon had stated its intentions to shift operations to other sites in light of these threats.
The Current Situation and Impact Prediction
At this point, the extent of the damage at the Amazon facility remains undisclosed, leaving the duration of service interruptions uncertain. Thus, it may be necessary to wait for an official update from Amazon regarding the level of impact on its workload.
Additionally, no other technology giant has reported experiencing adverse effects from the Iranian strike in the West Asia region as of now.
