SatLeo Labs Secures $2.2 Million in Seed Funding for Satellite Innovations
SatLeo Labs, a burgeoning spacetech startup, has announced the successful acquisition of $2.2 million in a seed funding round spearheaded by Unicorn India Ventures. This investment elevates the total funding for the firm to $5.5 million so far. The funding round attracted contributions from notable investors such as Merak Ventures, Java Capital, IIMA-CIIE, and Manish Gandhi.
Deployment of Funds for Thermal Satellite Mission
The funds raised will facilitate the advancement of SatLeo’s thermal satellite mission and enhance its AI-powered platform aimed at thermal intelligence applications. Established by Shravan Bhati, SatLeo Labs focuses on creating satellite-based systems to acquire thermal and visible data while operating in low Earth orbit.
Supporting Diverse Use Cases
SatLeo Labs’ platform is crafted to cater to various applications, including defence, agriculture, urban planning, and climate monitoring. The startup has successfully developed its inaugural thermal payload, TAPAS-1, which is currently being prepared for integration into satellites.
Ongoing Projects and Pilot Deployments
In addition, SatLeo has initiated pilot deployments, focusing on urban heat and air quality monitoring in cities like Ahmedabad and Tumakuru. This effort demonstrates the practical applications of its technology in real-world scenarios.
Team Expansion and Commercial Pipeline Growth
The company has grown its team to approximately 30 individuals and is actively constructing a commercial pipeline, with letters of intent surpassing $42 million. Over the coming year, SatLeo aims to prioritise satellite launch preparations, expand commercially, and enhance its thermal data capabilities.
