US Court Upholds Pentagon’s Ban on Anthropic: A Bold Legal Stand

Anthropic vs Pentagon: Ongoing Legal Battle Over AI Designation

Anthropic is currently embroiled in a legal confrontation with the Pentagon, as the Washington, D.C. federal court has decided not to pause the Pentagon’s national security blacklisting of the AI company. This ruling marks a significant moment for the Trump administration, as it opposes Anthropic’s critical lawsuit aimed at overturning the “supply chain risk” classification and aims to restore its public image.

Anthropic has accused US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth of misapplying his authority by labeling the company, alleging that it stems from the firm’s refusal to comply with specific requirements and eliminate safety restrictions on its AI products.

This designation has significant implications for Anthropic as it prohibits the firm from securing any future contracts with the Pentagon. Additionally, this could potentially extend to broader restrictions across the US government, potentially inflicting reputational damage on the company and leading to billions of dollars in lost business opportunities.

Furthermore, Anthropic contends that the government is infringing upon its First Amendment rights, claiming that the company was not granted the opportunity to defend itself, thereby violating its right to due process.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche shared an update on the social platform X, celebrating the government’s legal victory. He stated that the D.C. Circuit’s decision to allow the designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk is a significant triumph for military readiness.

Blanche further emphasized the importance of accessing Anthropic’s models, stating that the military must have full access if the technology is to be incorporated into sensitive systems.

Despite the ongoing legal disputes with the Pentagon and the Trump administration, Anthropic’s range of products, including the Claude app, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and others, continue to perform strongly in the market. The company has seen its annual revenue rise to over $30 billion from $9 billion at the close of 2025, and its post-money valuation is currently reported at $380 billion.

Recently, the company unveiled its most advanced AI model, Claude Mythos, designed for the Project GlassWing initiative. This new AI model will be adopted by several major firms, including Google, Apple, and Nvidia, for enhancing cybersecurity solutions.
