Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus Review

Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus has generated considerable buzz in the smartphone market. Last year, there were widespread discussions regarding the potential retirement of the “Plus” model in the Galaxy S series, along with the introduction of the ultra-slim “Edge” variant. Yet, despite the excitement, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 Plus, featuring significant upgrades, high-end attributes, and AI-integrated software.

Design and Display of Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus

In terms of design, Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus feels exceptionally familiar, following in the footsteps of its predecessor. It maintains a matte glass back framed with flat aluminium, along with slightly rounded edges. A new pill-shaped camera module houses three distinct camera sensors.

The smartphone exudes a premium feel owing to its slim profile of just 7.3mm and a weight of 190 grams. Despite its slender design, it boasts durability with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on both sides and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The device is also resistant to dust and smudges, although it can feel slippery without a protective case. Overall, Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus appeals to users who prefer understated simplicity over ostentatious designs.

The front of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus showcases a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display, offering a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. It supports 100% DCI-P3 colour spectrum and HDR10+, making it ideal for media consumption, gaming, and daily tasks. Its brightness levels perform commendably even under harsh summer sunlight in Delhi, ensuring outdoor visibility.

However, the display specifications largely mirror those of its predecessor, and no groundbreaking changes were observed that would justify an upgrade. Furthermore, the Galaxy S26 Plus lacks the Privacy Display feature meant to mitigate shoulder surfing.

Camera Features of Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus

The camera setup of Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus comprises a triple arrangement: a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide camera, similar to previous models. While the camera configuration has remained steady, the excitement surrounding it has waned slightly, even though internal advancements continue each year. The pivotal question is whether there have been any groundbreaking enhancements in camera performance.

Under optimal lighting, the smartphone excels in capturing vivid, detailed images. Nonetheless, a slight tendency for over-saturation can lead to colours appearing overly vivid, particularly warm tones in certain subjects, such as buildings and skin under direct sunlight. Despite these nuances, the camera generally performs reliably. Its low-light capabilities also remain commendable, showcasing impressive detail alongside bright exposures and low noise levels.

Regarding portraits and close-ups, the results are striking, focusing effectively on subjects with natural background blurring. While it may not surpass some camera-centric competitors like the Vivo X300 Pro or Oppo Find X9 series, the overall output still exudes flagship quality.

For close-range shots, the smartphone supports up to 3x optical zoom, effectively preserving sharp details, rich colours, and reliable edge differentiation. Moreover, the Ultrawide images taken with the Galaxy S26 Plus also proved to be dependable.

Performance and Software of Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus

At its core, Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus houses an advanced 2nm Exynos 2600 processor, substituting the earlier Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite 5 chipset. This year, RAM has been upgraded from 8GB to a substantial 12GB of LPDDR5x, with storage options reaching up to 512GB via UFS 4.0.

While the transition to an Exynos processor may cause uncertainty among users accustomed to Qualcomm or MediaTek options, the performance has been pleasing. Routine tasks involving high usage, frequent app transitions, and multitasking operate smoothly.

In gaming tests, engaging with titles such as BGMI and Genshin Impact, the smartphone performed impressively. The frame rates were consistent, even during prolonged gaming activities, delivering vibrant graphic quality without any lag.

Nonetheless, Samsung may need to refine its thermal management system as overheating was noticeable during extended gaming sessions, though this did not significantly affect performance or stability. Extended use of the camera also leads to increased heat.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus operates on One UI 8.5, based on Android 16, providing a smooth and refined user experience. The software incorporates various AI-integrated features such as Circle to Search, enhanced with support for resolving mathematical queries, alongside utilities like Photo Assist and Now Nudge. Bixby has become a smarter assistant, now able to connect with advanced AI systems like Gemini or Perplexity. Notably, the Galaxy S26 Plus promises seven years of software updates, ensuring longevity.

Battery Life of Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus

The device is powered by a durable 4,900mAh battery. Thanks to its new 2nm processor, it comfortably lasts an entire day, even under heavy usage. During evaluations, it showcased over 16 hours of screen time, covering tasks like gaming, streaming, browsing, and intensive camera operation.

Charging capabilities reach up to 45W. Testing with a 20W adaptor revealed that it takes around 2.5 hours for a full charge. As the smartphone does not include a charging adaptor in the package, purchasers will need to buy one separately to fully utilise the rapid charging capabilities.

Final Thoughts on Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus serves as an excellent option for power users who value extended battery life and processing capability within a more compact framework compared to the Ultra model. The transition to a 2nm chip works positively, delivering consistent performance for daily tasks. However, vigilance regarding overheating may be necessary during intensive use.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus stands out as a formidable flagship, effectively bridging the divide between standard and Ultra models while preserving premium features without inflating the cost. Though the design may feel somewhat familiar, it still offers an enhanced user experience with a vivid display, dependable camera performance, robust battery life, and AI-driven software advancements, solidifying its place in the high-end Android market.
