Lightspeed Venture Partners Enhances Marketing Leadership
Lightspeed Venture Partners is making strides in its marketing leadership by appointing Rohit Kaul as the new marketing head, sources familiar with the situation have reported. This appointment comes as Kaul is set to take over from Mansi Chugh, the former VP of Marketing and Communications, who recently departed after nearly four years with the firm.
Rohit Kaul’s Background
Previously, Rohit Kaul held the position of Vice President of Marketing at Blume Ventures, beginning his role in February 2023. Before joining Blume, he has worked with various organisations including Sacra and HCL.
Strategic Timing for Lightspeed
This appointment is particularly significant for Lightspeed as the venture capital firm intensifies its focus on India and Southeast Asia. This shift occurs amid a general downturn in startup funding and mounting challenges regarding portfolio performance. Over recent years, Lightspeed has invested in a variety of notable startups across sectors such as fintech, ecommerce, SaaS, and consumer internet.
Communications and Marketing Changes
Efforts to reach out to Kaul and Lightspeed for comments were not met with responses by the time of this publication. Lightspeed has established itself as a leading global investor within the Indian startup landscape, making investments in firms including OYO, Udaan, ShareChat, PhysicsWallah, and Pocket FM. Additionally, there have been several senior-level adjustments in the communications and marketing departments over recent years; notably, Carina Chopra also resigned after a tenure of around three-and-a-half years.
Fundraising Goals
Moreover, this leadership change appears to coincide with Lightspeed’s plans to initiate the fundraising process for its fifth India and Southeast Asia-focused fund, with goals reportedly set at approximately $500 million.
