ZeroDrag: Advancing Drone Avionics with New Funding
ZeroDrag, a prominent company in drone avionics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) sub-components, has successfully secured a funding amount of Rs 6.5 crore in a seed funding round spearheaded by Transition VC. Earlier, the startup had obtained Rs 1.2 crore during a pre-seed funding stage from Enrission India Capital alongside other angel investors in September 2023.
The funds will be allocated towards enhancing research and development capabilities, expanding manufacturing capacities, bolstering testing and quality infrastructure, ensuring supply chain stability, and accelerating the creation of next-generation UAV avionics for both Indian and international markets, as stated by ZeroDrag in an official announcement.
Company Background and Objectives
Established in 2022 by Amit Nimje and Shantanu Bhede, ZeroDrag is committed to developing indigenous electronics, communication systems, and hardware that is ready for autonomy for drones. Based in Nagpur, the startup creates essential components, including autopilots, motor controllers, GNSS modules, telemetry systems, communication frameworks, and payload integration solutions for drone manufacturers, enterprise UAV platforms, FPV enthusiasts, and various industrial applications.
ZeroDrag’s mission is to construct the fundamental electronics layer that empowers UAV companies to design, produce, and scale dependable drone systems for both Indian and global markets.
Product Offering and Market Reach
ZeroDrag provides high-performance sub-components to drone original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across numerous sectors such as defence, agriculture, logistics, and industry. Its OEM-agnostic and application-agnostic strategies enable the company to cater to a broad spectrum of drone platforms and applications around the globe.
Over the next 12 to 24 months, ZeroDrag aims to enhance its manufacturing capabilities, grow its engineering team, improve product accessibility, and diversify its product range into enterprise-grade UAV hardware. This will include systems designed for heavy-lift drones and future electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) platforms.
