Paytm Reports Strong Financial Results for FY27 Q1

Fintech leader One97 Communications, the company behind Paytm, released its financial performance for the first quarter of FY27 on Monday. The financial report indicates a remarkable 79% increase in profit, reaching Rs 220 crore, while revenue from operations surged by over 27% during this period. Paytm’s operational revenue for Q1 FY27 reached Rs 2,448 crore, an increase from Rs 1,918 crore in Q1 FY26, as detailed in the unaudited quarterly report submitted to the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Revenue Breakdown

Revenue generated from payment services represented more than 56% of Paytm’s total operating revenue, climbing over 32% year-on-year to reach Rs 1,384 crore in Q1 FY27. The income from distributing financial services and marketing services stood at Rs 814 crore and Rs 239 crore, respectively. Furthermore, the company recorded Rs 182 crore from non-operating income, bringing the total income for Q1 FY27 to Rs 2,630 crore. On a quarter-on-quarter comparison, Paytm’s revenue showcased an 8% increase from Rs 2,264 crore in Q4 FY26.

Expenditure Details

For the fintech giant, payment processing fees emerged as the largest cost component, comprising over 33% of its total expenses. This particular cost increased by 36% year-on-year, amounting to Rs 794 crore. Employee benefit expenses amounted to Rs 742 crore, which marked a nearly 16% rise during the same period.

Additionally, marketing expenditures escalated by 69% year-on-year, reaching Rs 169 crore in Q1 FY27. Costs related to software, cloud services, communications, legal fees, cashback, and various overheads culminated in total expenses of Rs 2,383 crore for the quarter, as opposed to Rs 2,016 crore in the previous year.

Having achieved profitable operations for the previous fiscal year, Paytm commenced FY27 on a robust footing, with profits skyrocketing 79% year-on-year to Rs 220 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 123 crore in Q1 FY26. Paytm also introduced new employee stock options (ESOPs) valued at approximately Rs 208 crore, which encompass 15.42 lakh equity shares under its ESOP 2019 scheme, according to a separate disclosure made to the NSE.

At the conclusion of the trading session today, Paytm’s share price settled at Rs 1,348.5, with a total market capitalisation of Rs 86,396 crore or $9.09 billion.
