GalaxEye Expands Capabilities through Acquisition of StarOps

GalaxEye, a startup focused on space technology, has successfully acquired StarOps, a spacecraft engineering firm based in Bengaluru. This acquisition integrates StarOps’ proprietary technologies, validated satellite platforms, and systems engineering expertise into GalaxEye’s operations, along with an accomplished engineering team. Notably, several team members contributed to TeamIndus’s Lunar Lander and Rover initiatives. Their rich experience in mission design, spacecraft development, and end-of-life operations will significantly enhance GalaxEye’s competencies across the satellite value chain.

StarOps’ Contributions to Satellite Development

Founded in 2022, StarOps is engaged in the development of satellite platforms and is dedicated to the indigenisation of spacecraft technologies in India. The acquisition imbues GalaxEye with StarOps’ robust experience in satellite design, development, and qualification.

Expertise in Spacecraft Systems Engineering

StarOps boasts a wealth of expertise in various domains, including spacecraft systems engineering, mission operations, propulsion, avionics, flight computing, guidance and navigation, structures and mechanisms, electrical systems, programme management, and ground operations. The company has achieved over 66% indigenisation across its satellite systems and has pioneered technologies that aim to decrease reliance on international supply chains.

Enriched Portfolio of Technologies

This acquisition also augments GalaxEye’s portfolio with StarOps’ suite of spacecraft technologies and engineering proficiencies. It includes validated satellite bus platforms within the 50 kg, 150 kg, and 250 kg ranges, proprietary subsystem technologies, qualification heritage, testing infrastructure, and engineering tools.

Transforming Satellite Development Processes

The transaction is set to broaden GalaxEye’s in-house engineering capabilities and introduce advanced spacecraft technologies across various phases of the satellite development timeline. The companies indicate that this integration will foster product development, facilitate vertical integration, and enhance the delivery of comprehensive space missions from concept through to development and operations.

GalaxEye’s Innovative Approach

Established in 2021 by co-founders Suyash Singh, Denil Chawda, Kishan Thakkar, Pranit Mehta, Rakshit Bhatt, and Satya Chakravarthy, GalaxEye is pushing forward with the development of Earth observation capabilities through its proprietary OptoSAR technology. This technology synergises Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical imaging to deliver imaging solutions that work in all weather conditions, day or night.

Market Activity in India’s Startup Ecosystem

This acquisition comes at a time of heightened merger and acquisition activity within India’s startup arena, encompassing recent transactions across fintech, consumer, SaaS, proptech, and deep-tech sectors. Notable recent deals include Aurum PropTech’s acquisition of Housing.com for an enterprise value of Rs 458 crore, Meesho’s Rs 202 crore acquisition of Kirana Club, and MoEngage’s acquisition of AI startup Aampe.
