Lane: Tech-Enabled Driving Education and Mobility Platform
Lane, a tech-enabled driving education and mobility platform, has successfully secured Rs 8.5 crore during its pre-seed funding round, with Kae Capital leading the investment. The funding round also saw contributions from DeVC, Antler India, Panthera Peak, and various angel investors. This new capital will facilitate Lane’s geographic growth, which includes increasing its instructor network throughout Bengaluru and other Tier 1 cities, developing sensor technology, and broadening its car ownership services, as outlined in their press release.
About Lane’s Services
Established in January of last year, Lane provides structured driving lessons, comprehensive RTO and licensing support, along with a driver intelligence platform. Based in Bengaluru, the startup also facilitates car purchases, RTO services, and various mobility-related offerings to its learners. Reports indicate that nearly 60% of its learners intend to buy their first car.
Safety in Driving Education
A market report reveals that more than 1.7 lakh individuals lose their lives in road accidents in India annually, which translates to approximately 20 fatalities every hour. Despite possessing only about 1% of the world’s vehicles, India accounts for nearly 11% of global road traffic deaths. Lane has reportedly provided over 30,000 hours of driving instruction to more than 3,100 learners within a span of 18 months. Its focus on safety was established through more than 400 hours of pilot classes in collaboration with automobile researchers. The company evaluates its instructors based on 15 driving parameters through simulated lessons.
The Fragmented Driving Education Sector
The driving education sector remains quite fragmented, with varying levels of technology integration spanning driving education, professional driver services, fleet management, and mobility solutions. For instance, DriveU utilises technology to seamlessly connect car owners with trained, verified drivers, claiming to have completed over 5 million drives and catered to more than 7 lakh car owners.
Recent Developments in Mobility Funding
In other mobility news, Milo Drive recently secured $2.4 million in seed funding from Caret Capital, Antler India, IAN Capital, among others, while River Mobility raised $120 million during its Series C funding in August 2026. Funding specifically aimed at driving education remains limited in India, although the broader mobility sector continues to draw significant investment across driver services, fleet technology, and electric vehicle mobility.
