Pixxel Secures $100 Million in Series C Funding for Space Technology
Bengaluru-based space-tech firm Pixxel has successfully raised $100 million in its Series C funding round, which was co-led by Temasek and Seraphim Space. The funding saw participation from new investors including 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, alongside existing supporters such as Radical Ventures and growX Ventures, among others. This new capital boost elevates Pixxel’s total funding to $195 million. Reports indicate that this funding round is the largest raised by a space-tech entity in India.
Valuation and Future Plans of Pixxel
Media sources indicate that Pixxel is currently valued at approximately $450-500 million following this latest funding round. The newly acquired funds will be utilized to widen their scope beyond hyperspectral imaging, venturing into advanced sensing satellites, Earth intelligence software, sovereign space systems, and satellite manufacturing. Plans include augmenting the Honeybee constellation, advancing high-resolution optical imaging satellites, expanding the Aurora Earth intelligence platform and enhancing manufacturing capacity through Gigapixxel.
Company Background and Previous Funding
Founded by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel initially specialised in hyperspectral imaging satellites but has since diversified into Earth intelligence software and satellite systems for both commercial and sovereign missions. Prior to this funding round, Pixxel had attracted $95 million from investors such as Google, Lightspeed, Radical Ventures, Blume Ventures, growX Ventures, Glade Brook Partners, and Seraphim. The startup completed its Series B round at $60 million in December 2024.
Recent Achievements and Industry Milestones
This funding round arrives shortly after Skyroot Aerospace became the first Indian space-tech startup to achieve unicorn status, surpassing the $1 billion valuation threshold. Over the last two years, Pixxel has successfully deployed six Firefly satellites, launched the Aurora platform, and secured contracts with NASA and the NRO. Furthermore, it has clinched multiple iDEX challenges from the Ministry of Defence and was chosen to lead the initiative for India’s first public-private Earth observation constellation comprising 12 satellites under IN-SPACe.
