Popular New Year’s Eve Items Ordered on Quick Commerce Platforms
Chips, fruit beer, cold beverages, ice cubes, and grapes were among the top items ordered on quick commerce platforms this New Year’s Eve, according to insights from Zomato-owned Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart. Additionally, cocktail mixers and soda experienced a surge in orders, while essential items like paneer and milk topped user searches.
What particularly gained attention was the significant number of orders for grapes. This trend became a sensation on social media, where people globally shared their intentions to consume 12 green grapes under a table at midnight. This activity is rooted in an age-old Spanish tradition, believed to bring good luck and prosperity for the upcoming year.
Insights from Quick Commerce Platforms
Quick commerce platforms have been actively sharing order trends through various posts on X, formerly known as Twitter. Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa announced that Blinkit experienced its highest daily orders on December 31, alongside other milestones such as the most tips received by delivery partners and record sales of chips and grapes.
In a lighthearted post, Swiggy Instamart highlighted, “Here are today’s top 5 trending searches: milk, chips, chocolate, grapes, paneer. No matter how much you try, next year your fate is sealed.”
Swiggy Co-founder Phani Kishan provided live updates on X regarding ordering trends for Instamart. Notable mentions included the largest single order in Goa, which was an extravagant ₹70,325 for a spectacular party, and the swift delivery of tonic water within just four minutes.
Order Trends and Regional Insights
According to a food ordering trends report released by Zomato for 2024, the Delhi-NCR region placed significantly more orders (12.4 crore) compared to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana combined (10.5 crore). Interestingly, four separate orders were delivered to a location saved as ‘ambani wedding’, while 4,940 users searched for ‘girlfriend’ within the app, and 40 users searched for ‘dulhan’.
