Mastercard Exits Pine Labs Stake in Major Fintech Move
Mastercard has taken the significant step of exiting fintech company Pine Labs by selling its complete 4.31% stake through a substantial transaction valued at Rs 933.5 crore on Tuesday. As per the bulk deal information available on the BSE, Mastercard Asia/Pacific Pte. Ltd. has divested 4.97 crore equity shares at Rs 187.75 each, resulting in a total of approximately Rs 933.57 crore.
The shares have been acquired by a mix of domestic and international institutional investors. Notably, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company emerged as the largest buyer, securing 93.1 lakh shares for Rs 174.8 crore. Other prominent purchasers include Societe Generale, which bought 87.7 lakh shares for Rs 164.65 crore, and Citigroup Global Markets Singapore, acquiring 66.7 lakh shares worth Rs 125.2 crore. Additional participants in this transaction included BNP Paribas Arbitrage, Goldman Sachs, Edelweiss Mutual Fund, Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, Morgan Stanley Asia Singapore, Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund and Susquehanna Pacific.
Recent Stake Sales by Pine Labs Investors
This development comes in the wake of several stake disposals by initial investors in Pine Labs. Earlier this month, Alpha Wave sold nearly all of its 3.11% stake for approximately Rs 550 crore. In June of this year, Actis also sold shares amounting to Rs 522 crore in two separate transactions.
Pine Labs Financial Performance
On the financial front, Pine Labs reported a remarkable 20% growth in operational scale year-on-year, reaching Rs 737 crore in Q1 FY26. Their profit surged fourfold, amounting to Rs 20 crore during the quarter.
Pine Labs Stock Trading Update
As of 11:08 AM today, Pine Labs’ shares were trading at Rs 194.35 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), reflecting a total market capitalization of Rs 22,425 crore ($2.36 billion).
